Octoopus
Privacy policy
Last updated: October 10, 2026
Octoopus collects as little as it can: what the site needs to work, and what you choose to share. Nothing is sold, and there is no advertising tracker.
Who is responsible
The publisher of Octoopus (see the legal notice). To exercise your rights or ask a question: by e-mail at info@octoopus.art, or through the contact page.
When you browse
- Technical data — your IP address, your browser and the pages you ask for pass through the host's servers, which keep logs to deliver the pages and protect the site.
- Your choices on this device — your instrument, the view of the results or a folded filter are kept in your browser (local storage); they never leave it unless you sign in.
When you have an account
- Your account — your name, your e-mail address and your password (stored encrypted), or, if you sign in with Google, the name, e-mail address and identifier Google gives us.
- Your preferences — instrument, notation, appearance, country, notification settings.
- Your library — saved works, collections, followed composers and threads, saved searches; and the suggestions computed from them once a day.
- What you publish — covers (a link to your video and its description), threads, replies, comments, likes, votes and reports.
We use these data to run your account and the community features, to moderate what is published, and to send you the e-mails you have switched on in your account (replies, digest…). Legal basis: the service you asked for when you created your account, and our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe.
Who receives them
- The publisher, alone, to run the site. Your covers, threads and comments are public once published, with your display name.
- Odoo S.A., the host, which processes them on our behalf.
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- YouTube, only when you play a cover (the video is then loaded from youtube-nocookie.com) or share one. The thumbnails of the videos come through our own server.
How long we keep them
As long as your account exists. When you delete it, your profile, library, likes, votes and covers are erased; your threads, replies and comments stay, signed “Deleted member”, so that other members’ conversations remain readable — ask us if you want them removed too. Server logs are kept by the host for a limited time, for security.
Your rights
You can see and correct your data at any time in your account, and delete your account yourself from its Security tab. You also have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to the use of, and receive a copy of your personal data: by e-mail at info@octoopus.art, or through the contact page. If you think your rights are not respected, you can complain to your data-protection authority (in France, the CNIL — cnil.fr; in Switzerland, the FDPIC — edoeb.admin.ch).
The site is not meant for children under 15.
